Hamlet of Timbervale
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Nestled in the midst of the beautiful green vale, surrounded by trees with gorgeous blue skies and snow capped mountains off in the distance, the small Hamlet of Timbervale is home to just under a hundred permanent residents who have made this settlement home.

Timbervale is olocated in the far northwest coner of Nentir Vale, with it having no main road in and out of the hamlet, only isolated trails and paths this small community has grown over the years into a very close knit community. The valley is surrounded by lush hills with forests of pine and aspen, which provide ample hunting and foraging opportunities for the locals.

The terrain is dotted with a few small farms and fields, where these residents grow a variety of crops, including wheat, corn, and vegetables. The Hamlet itself is a collection of cottages, houses, buildings and structures. They are constructed in tudor style using wood (some painted or coated with a simple wash made from brown, yellow, or white chalk mixed with water), brick and/or cobblestone.

These buildings feature mostly gable roofs, as do some of the surrounding properties include large farms and small gardens. There are many families with homes in the village that may offer nightly or weekly guests as well and the settlement also has a single Inn "the Inn of the Whistling Pig" that has rooms for guests to rent.

A few cobblestone roads and walkways lead to all the key establishments and a large stream runs through the Hamlet which is named "Redbrook Run", providing clean water for drinking and irrigation. The stream runs down from The Stonemarch, flowing through Timbervale and down into the Wintermist River that flows into Lake Wintermist.

Ruling over the settlement is lord Akron Stormblade. He created the local militia in the village to protect the lands. Lord Stormblade is very new to being protector of Timbervale having this much of a responsibility thrust upon him, but he has plenty of support and is managing better than expected. Akron is a respectful & polite man who loves his community deeply and he takes great pride in protecting his home and the good folk who live here.

The hamlet also has a local priest, Brother Temias who leads the druidic rituals on the "Hill of the Runes" and offers guidance to the villagers on matters of faith and morality. The priest is not a member of the militia but is an important figure in the village nonetheless. Overall the structure in Timbervale is hierarchical, with Sir Akron Stormblade at the top with brother Temias and groups of merchants and villagers supporting him.

The locals are very content with this arrangement, as it provides a stable and prosperous community in which they can live and work and for the most part, the community is very happy with Akron Stormblade ruling Timbervale and will be trying to keep him as lord of the hamlet "when the time comes of course". The villagers are a close-knit community, with a strong sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. They are hardworking and very self-sufficient. Despite their isolation, they are friendly but suspicious to outsiders because of the orc problems coming down from the Stonemarch through the Stonefang Pass.

Life here is simple and peaceful, and the villagers are content to live out their days in this peaceful and beautiful region.

The Market Square
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The majority of the Fallcrest folk live above the bluffs in Hightown and walk down to do business on the streets of Lowtown, which bustle with commerce. This wide square is an open area, full of shops and portable stalls where Fallcrest merchants and visiting traders do business during good weather. The children of the city gather here for games of tag or kick-stones.

Every other day or so, carts and wagons gather in the square and offer goods to the people of Fallcrest. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the city folk to shop and socialize in the market. Farmers sell produce, hunters hawk smoked meats, villagers sell crafts, and sometimes a trader from distant locations sells implements or costly goods.

"On any given day, there is a 50% chance that items from the adventuring gear list in the Player’s Handbook are available for sale here." Adventurers will almost never find armor, weapons, implements, or magic items in the market square.

Inspired By Gary Gygax
The largest general store in Fallcrest, Sandercot’s deals in just about anything—food, clothing, stores, rope, tools, gear, leather goods, and more. Compared to the Halfmoon Trading House, Sandercot’s has slightly cheaper prices but goods of somewhat lower quality.

The owner is Nimena Sandercot, the widow of the late and unlamented Marken Sandercot. She has three young sons, all of whom are quickly learning the family business.

Barthen's Provisions
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The proprietor of this establishment is Elmar Barthen, a human man of fifty years of age. He has gray hair and mustache and carries himself very well. He employs a couple of young clerks (Ander and Thistle) who help load and unload wagons, and who wait on customers when Elmar isn't around.

Virtually all sorts of saleable goods are offered here. Rare and/or unusual items might be obtained at a price and in time (and will often be spurious or faulty). Magical items are NOT sold here ever! The store itself is medium sized at best. Barthen's Provisions is the only trading house in Phandalin and acts as the general store for the settlement.

1. Clothing and Packs: peasant equipment is about 90% of list price, rounded down; dungeoneering items are 100% rounded up.

2. Footwear, Gloves & Belts: Prices to adventurers is 125% of list, 80% to villagers.

3. Lighting Equipment: Tinderboxes, candles, oil, lamps, wicks, lanterns etc are 110% of list, rounded up.

4. Hand Tools: Hammers, adzes, planes, nails, saws etc. A file sells for 1sp and up. Saws cost cost about the same as a hand axe or hatchet.

5. Food & Herbs: Rations packed to go are 120% of list, and herbs are 150% of list.

6. Ropes, Chains & Dungeoneering Gear: (including writing materials and religious items) 110% of list.

7. Tack, Harness, Wheelbarrows & Dungeon Carts: All in stock will be at 75% of list.

The store is located on the northern side of Phandalin, and just south of his store lies Elmar's house. It is the first building that will be seen when entering Phandalin from the north side of the settlement.

The store is open from dawn until dusk. It sells low-cost trade wares, such as adventuring gear, as well as rations and other simple goods, and is perhaps the only place in the entire region that carries specialty skull-shaped butter. However, he does not sell weapons and armor or potions, but Elmar will helpfully direct interested buyers to places where they could find these. For larger orders, Elmar will supply a cart pulled by his ox Vincent to move the goods "for a price of course".

This store also serves as a trading hub. Clerks will unload and load carts of goods and resources that they come into, or were to go out of, Phandalin via wagon. Elmar also brokers deals for large sales of livestock and similar goods, bringing together local sellers from as far away as Fallcrest with buyers as far afield as Winterhaven.

Tika Tanner
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Tika Tanner, is a beautiful young female human and twin sister to Rosie. She has lived in Desul Torey all of her life while her sister was off adventuring, she stayed home with her loving aunt and took care of her until she passed away. She has an athletic build and flaming red hair, and she is dressed in a gray and white outfit and low boots. When her aunt passed away, she felt her sister was more prepared to run the inn with the passing of her aunt but she agreed to assist her as best she could.

Her and her sister are very close and have very similar personalities, her sister might be a little more outgoing than she is. Tika handles the bar at the Gray Hare Inn in Desul Torey together with her twin sister although she waits on tables as well to help her sister when business picks up.

Trait: It's always good to know when the time has come to cut someone off from the alcholic drinks at the inn.
Ideal: Posterity. I am a romantic at heart, and one day I want the fairy tale . . . a handsome man to sweep me off my feet and live happily ever after.
Bond: Desul Torey is my home, and always will be. I want to be near my family and friends.
Flaw: I can be stern at times, but it takes being stern when someone has had too much to drink. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say no.

Tika has lived in this region all of her life, and has not done much traveling unlike her twin sister. Her parents died when she was very young and she remembers little of them. She was raised by her aunt, in Desul Torey until she passed away two winters ago. Her aunt was the former owner of the Gray Hare and so upon her death her sister Rosie took over the Inn and Tika stepped up to help manage the inn.

Tika has never married, although she does have a vision, one day getting the fairy tale romance and settling down with a handsome young man. She is very friendly towards her customers but at times has to be a little strict with the drinks when people have had too much to drink, she knows most that visit the inn personally with them being locals of Desul Torey. Tika is very well liked and loved by all.

Tika does not know much about the region outside of Desul Torey, she leaves all that to her sister since Rosie is the former adventure and has traveled all over the region. Tika prefers running the bar herself "as much as she is able". During busier times she does help Rosie wait on tables.

Mort's Supplies
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
A sign depicting the grim reaper pushing a fruit cart hangs above the door of the only general store still open. A burly human named Mort runs it, and he is famed for his temper and fairness, but he doesn’t engage in petty arguing over prices. Those who try to bargain hear, “What does the tag say”? Those who persist are shown to the door. Mort has the adventuring gear described in the Player’s Handbook® and a 20% chance of having 1d4 Potions of Healing on hand.

Mort is a devout man who claims that his prayers have saved him from the doom hovering over the town. Mort and a few other townsfolk stalk the streets at night to destroy undead and cleanse the town. If befriended, Mort might point the way to the Temple of Three, claiming that “Only through faith will we find redemption”. He might also invite the heroes to join him on his nocturnal patrols.
