Majros "Rosie" Tanner
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Majros Tanner, or Rosie as she is called by everyone, is a young female human, formerly an adventurer. She is a skilled ranger. She has an athletic build and braided ginger hair, and she is dressed in a faded green outfit over a white shirt together with an apron and low boots.

Rosie manages the Gray Hare Inn in Desul Torey together with her twin sister, Tika. Her animal companion is an old fox with grey whiskers called William, who likes to sleep in front of the fireplace.

Trait: A guest should always feel welcome and be treated like family.
Ideal: Posterity. I hope my future children and grandchildren will live in Desul Torey and see it grow and prosper.
Bond: The Gray Hare is my home and where I meet my friends and family.
Flaw: I can be bossy at times, and I work harder than most. Sometimes I don’t notice when others are flagging and need to rest.

Rosie has lived in the region region all of her life. Her parents died when she was very young and she remembers little of them. She was raised by her aunt, in Desul Torey until she passed away two winters ago. Her aunt was the former owner of the Gray Hare and so upon her death Rosie took over the Inn and has been running it ever since.

Rosie has never married, although she would like to some day and she wants to eventually have children of her own, maybe when she retires from running the inn. She is very friendly towards her customers, she knows most that visit the inn personally with them being locals of Desul Torey. Prior to becoming the owner of the Gray Hare, Rosie was a wandering ranger and adventurer who journeyed widely. She is easy-going and talkative and can size up her guests at a glance.

Rosie knows much about the region and will gladly offer any information she has to patrons "when time permits of course, running an inn is busy work". Rosie prefers waiting on tables herself "as much as she is able". During busier times she does have some additional staff to help with waiting tables and such.

The Gray Hare
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This spacious two-storey structure is located at the heart of Desul Torey. The inn was built on the foundation of an ancient dwarven building, huge slabs of weathered granite make up most of the foundation, while the walls are made of thick pine wood and stone. Its many windows keep the tavern well lit, and its stables house a dozen horses. A battered wooden sign, featuring the inn’s name, a mug of ale & a lute, creaks in the wind where it hangs above the entrance.

This is only Inn within the settlement, a natural and comfortable meeting point, since it is the largest building in Desul Torey.

In the common room, local hunters and other villagers meet after long trips into the woods to share news and rumours over hot meals and mugs of cider or ale. Farmers, tradespeople and visitors exchange stories by the large fireplace or at the bar. At times, travelling bards provide entertainment. Farmers from nearby, traders, and the occasional merchants exchange stories and gossip by the open fireplace.

The Gray Hare is owned and operated by Rosie Tanner and serves as the main gathering place for the people of Desul Torey. It is a large, comfortable establishment that serves good food and ale. Rosie Tanner has managed The Gray Hare for almost two years. Prior to running the inn, Rosie Tanner was a wandering adventurer and travelled widely.

She is easygoing and talkative and can size up her guests at a glance. She has an animal companion, an old grey fox with grey whiskers called William, who likes to sleep in front of the hearth.

The Barkeep, Tika Tanner, is the twin sister of Rosie Tanner. It is not uncommon to see Tika tending bar and helping her sister on a regular basis.

The Gray Hare is a rustic inn found close to the center of the settlement. The Inn is rather ordinary looking but has a warm, comfortable feel to it. The walls are filled with various plants, flowers and other assorted flora. A long bar runs along the opposite wall.

The taproom in the cellar supplies the drinks to those who enter while the chambers above are available to rent. The prices of the food and drink served here are of reasonable prices and this establishments services are well worth the coin.

The Gray Hare may be common in appearance but the food and drink served here is known across the region, even if the inn is of more common build, the food and drink are excellent. Respectable customers are always welcome as long as they have the money for their drinks and meals.

The establishments employees are for the most part locals from Desul Torey. The furnishings in the dining area such as the tables and chairs are worn and smooth from years of use. Many candles are scattered through the main floor for maintaining a comfortable ambience for its customers.

The main floor of this establishment is for the most part a long open area with a large hearth set into the southernmost brick wall. This structure appears to have been kept remarkably clean and organized. The locals take great pride in calling this the settlements only Inn and tavern . . . one would be wise to not insult this establisment around the locals. The second floor of the building is where all of the guest rooms are located, a total of twelve standard guests rooms and 5 private rooms are available. Usually most of them are vacant due to this towns remote location. Each room has a comfortable single sized bed, several covers & blankets, a wash stand, chamber pot, a couple of towels, pegs for garments, and a comfortable sitting chair. All of the guest rooms are identical in appearance, all stocked with the same exact items. Each room is the same price and they each sleep a single person.

Meals are served on pottery, pewter or copper services according to the customers order. When full meals are ordered they come with potatoes, carrots, bread and string beans or yams. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages.

Easthill
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Easthill is a small hamlet within the Barony of Harkenwold that has a standing population of 155 people. It is a hamlet of sheperds and stonecutters, Easthill rests on the slopes of the Briar Hills. The stone used to build the crossing at Albridge was quarried from hills nearby. A human trader named Sarken Toldorff is the village elder, but he is thoroughly cowed by the Iron Circle marauders. A hunter named Adalbar has quietly stepped up to organize Easthill’s fight.

Nestled in the midst of a beautiful grassland region, surrounded by trees with a view of the beautiful skies of the region. This small hamlet of Easthill maintains a stable population of around 155 but does see a dozen or so visitors each week that are passing through the area. Farms and fields dot the landscape where the residents grow a variety of crops, including wheat, corn, potatoes and many more vegetables. The hamlet itself consists of a collection of small homes, cottages, buildings and structures of various sorts.

These buildings are well constructed and have been very well maintained by the community. Most are of stone, cobblestone and wood construction. The few roads that exist in Easthill are made of cobblestone construction. The buildings often feature thatched roofs, and some of the surrounding properties include mid to large farms, spotted with gardens. A few cobblestone roads that exist lead to key establishments with the hamlet.

A small stream flows through the center of Easthill that runs off of the eastern Nentir River, which is an additional source of fresh water to the community. The settlement and surrounding lands was once ruled by local Paladin, Lord Edmond Sternholm until he went mad and killed everyone everyone within his castle and died with no heirs. His last loyal surviving knight, Sir Richard Dupree, escaped and created the local militia in the settlement to continue to protect the lands around Easthill until the area and castle could both be restored with a new and proper lord.

The settlement also has a local priest by the name of Brother Tiberius, who leads the druidic rituals on the Hill of the Standing Stones and offers guidance to the villagers on matters of faith and morality. Brother Tiberius is not a member of the settlements militia but is an important figure in Easthill nonetheless.

Overall, the power structure in Easthill is hierarchical, with Sir Richard Dupree at the top with Brother Tiberius and groups of merchants and villagers supporting him. The locals are content with this arrangement, as it provides a stable and prosperous community in which they can live and work which is why most support Sir Richard Dupree as the settlements lord and plan to keep him in the position for a long time to come.

The villagers are a close knit community, with a strong sense of comaraderie and shared purpose. The are hardworking and very self-sufficient. Despite their isolation within the Barony of Harkenwold, they are friendly but suspicious to outsiders because of the recent raids on the settlement.

Life here is simple and peaceful, and the community is content to live out their days in the beautiful region of Nentir Vale. Many of the locals are involved in a religious group called the Order of the Sun which meets once a week on the Hill of the Standing Stones to the west for prayers and rituals. It is an ancient nomadic religion based on nature.

The Twins
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The Twins are roughly a half day journey from Desul Torey. The gloomy rolling hills around the Twins are covered with yellow grass and low thorny bushes. Even during the daytime, the land rests in a faint gloom. The Twins are two stone monoliths that are smooth with age and draped in veils of fog.

The tallest monolith is nearly 20 feet tall, while the other is broken and stands only half as tall. Around the area of the Twins are multiple piles of granite stones that have been neatly stacked into man-sized columns with a pyramid shaped top. These are ancient cairns, the final resting places of fallen members of a long forgotten dwarf clan over a thousand years ago. The monoliths are situated on a low hill and surrounded by dozens of ancient cairns. The remnants of the broken monolith lie on the ground, shattered into several pieces.

The reason why the monoliths were erected has long been lost to time, but according to some legends, two storm giant twin brothers were buried here aeons ago.

The Baited Hook
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Once a popular tavern that served the finest fish in all of the vale now is nothing more than an occassional gathering place for meetings and such. Outside of it hangs a sign bearing the name of the establishment. The tavern's central lounge contains a small hearth. The main entrance features a stout bar that can be swung down to bar it against forceful intrusion.

And additionally, its upper rooms act as guestrooms, with chimneys poking out from each of them. The establishment overall lacks in luxuries, but feels as comfortable as any home. The inn is ran by Glint, the half-orc proprietor and bartender. He offers strong spirits, ales, and wines. Rooms are available and Glint is always ready to chat and share the latest rumors at no additional expense to the guests, since so few frequent his establishment these days, visitors are always a welcome sight.

The inn itself is made of stone with a tile roof. The windows of the inn look out over the lake. The Baited Hook has small stables which are located on the side of the building. Surpisingly, being a Half-Orc, Glint is surprisingly well liked amog the remaining folk of Mistwatch. He has a soft heart and tends to cater to the ladies who visit his inn, showing them extra politeness.

Glint has worked very hard to keep his establishment operating through these tough times and even has taken one of the upstairs rooms as is own living space. The Baited Hook is all Glint has left and he does not mean to lose it.

Beacon Inn
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The Beacon Inn was once known throughout the region for its fine dining, excellent wine cellar, and dutiful staff. All of that has now changed in the recent past, only locals come here now, of course. The inn itself is not large at all, it is more of a mid-sized quaint establishment.

The main floor consists of a dining room with a dozen tables and a few booths lining the wall. A bar is nestled in the corner of the dining room; large casks of ale from a local brewer are on hand with several extras on stand by behind and to the side of the bar. The main floor also houses the kitchens, the staff’s personal quarters "what few still work here", and the entrance to the cellar, where the proprietor keeps wine, food, and other supplies behind a locked door. The second floor has twelve rooms. The rooms face the street, and only have windows. All are comfortable but sparse on décor.

The owner, Uriah Jimp, is a short, bald human, drooping eyes, and flushed features. He concluded early on that something was wrong with the water and has forbidden his staff from drinking anything but his own water reserves, ale, or wine. His staff of four cooks, two grooms, and four maids is terrified by recent developments, and none dare leave the inn.

Jimp is pleasant, although since he gave up the well water, he has stayed just a hair shy of drunk. In his slurred speech, he can tell the heroes that the troubles started “when Cadimus Zaspar found his cure.” Uriah knows what Cadimus was after and that a stranger eventually brought him a cure.

The tavern carries a decent selection of ales and brews and offer foods such as stews, round loaves of dark nut bread, and strong yellow-green cheeses. Beyond the food the tavern offers lodgings, though the sale of food outstripps these so much that the owners don't see fit to call themselves an inn. These are primarily utilized by weary travelers far from home or those who are temporarily apart from their family for whatever reason.

The tavern acts as a neutral meeting ground for locals to gossip about strange events going on in the area, trade, and pursue hobbies such as gambling. The tavern is own by an man named Bilby. The third of Fallcrest’s temples is devoted to Sehanine. It also includes shrines to Corellon, Melora, and Avandra. The Markelhays regard Sehanine as their special patron, and over the years they have given generously to the temple. The temple occupies a commanding position atop the bluffs, and its white minarets can be seen from any corner of Lowtown.

The leader of the temple is High priest Ressilmae Starlight, a wise and compassionate elf who finished adventuring decades ago and retired to a contemplative life. He is a musician of great skill who happily tutors the local children, even those who are poor and can’t afford to pay for their lessons.

When Fallcrest was a larger city, it supported several good-sized temples located in the Hightown districts. With the town’s depopulation, several of these were abandoned, including the House of the Sun, a temple dedicated to Pelor. The place also includes shrines to Kord and Bahamut. Recently, a zealous dwarf priest of Pelor named Grundelmar came to Fallcrest from Hammerfast and reestablished this old temple. Grundelmar is loud and opinionated, a real fire-breather who goes on and on about smiting evil wherever it might lurk.

Gundren lives out of one of the rooms upstairs "paying for room and board of course, even though Rosie has begged him to stop paying".

Gundren tends to be out of Desul Torey a lot, recently spending a lot of time in Phandalin, enjoying the wilderlands of the region and exploring the mountains to the east. Gundren is a very outspoken dwarf, always in the mood for good conversion as well as good ale which he tends to drink far too often. It is common knowledge that no one has ever seen Gundren is a sour mood. One might say that he is more friendly than most dwarves. He does tend to get over obsessed with a task once he has it locked in refusing to give up. This has caused problems for him in the past and over time he has gotten better about this.

Gundren is a short and burly Dwarf with a chest length white and grey beard. He wears common clothing and hard traveling boots and gloves. Gundren Rockseeker is a dwarven business man and explorer, tending to put exploring first and then business, his business interests are many and varied but recently he has taken to exploring the Dawnforge Mountains for lost crypts and such. Gundren is intelligent, proud, and a bit stubborn. He is well spoken and outgoing, and tends to treat his allies as equals. He is respected by many throughout the region.

Gundren is very protective of Rosie and Tika, almost to the point of putting his own life in danger to ensure their safety but he knows eventually has to step away and let them lives the lives they both have. Anyone proving themselves to Gundren become trusted friends and allies . . . he will never turn his back on them and if he is able, he will offer aide to those friends in need.

Gundren has straight white hair which is starting to thin in his old age. He has a slight crooked nose that has been broken several times in the past. His eyes are blue and he stands 4.5 feet (1.4 meters) tall. Gundren usually carries a single-bladed axe and a medium shield with the symble of a warhammer and shield engraved upon it. He once wore a helmet but it was lost in a battle fighting off orcs.

Most of the time Gundren travels light and enjoys the wide open roads. He is always searching for new opportunities to discover something new and unexplored. He keeps few friends close during his travels, having said they tend to slow him down. Recently however he has been seen in the region in and around the Phandalin, claiming to be searching for some great hidden treasure he had caught wind of recently.

The market in Desul Torey is basically a small clearing on the east side of the settlement where carts and wagons gather and offer goods to the people of Desul Torey. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the local folk to shop and socialize in the market. Farmers sell produce, hunters hawk smoked meats, villagers sell crafts, and sometimes a trader from distant locations sells implements or costly goods.

"On any given day, there is a 50% chance that items from the adventuring gear list in the Player’s Handbook are available for sale here". Adventurers will almost never find armor, weapons, implements, or magic items in the market square, however.

The Moneychanger's Shop is a small bank business in Phandalin that offers secured storage to the merchants and traders that come through Phandalin. It is owned and operated by a man by the name of Stephon Winterghast.

The Moneychanger's Shop is located on the north side of the settlement and has been well established since the early days of Phandalin. It carries a good working reputation with it's customers and the people of Phandalin. The Moneychaner's shop is established within a well-secured building that is rumored to have magical wards placed all through the structure by a passing wizard years ago to assist in the location remaining secure at all times . . . no one has put that rumor to the test though.

This local Moneychanger's Shop is endorsed by mayor Harbin Wester and during all business hours one can always find at least two guards stationed inside the Moneychanger's Shop that are locally hired by the owner of the shop. The location offers a fairly straightforward service. Individuals can deposit their hard-earned coin within the secured building and withdraw the same amount at a later date. Information about the amounts of transactions and the bank's clientele are kept secret. The Moneychanger's Shop handling fees are 3% for all coin deposits and storage (no matter the length of time the bank holds a customers coin and valuables) and 4% are non coin valuables stored within the bank.

The Phandalin Moneychanger's Shop does not offer loans to customers. It is strictly a location within Phandalin that exchanges coin and stores valuables for this in need "at a small fee of course". Storge of items has no time limit but the storage fees do adjust with the length of time the items are stored here.

Hamlet of Timbervale
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Nestled in the midst of the beautiful green vale, surrounded by trees with gorgeous blue skies and snow capped mountains off in the distance, the small Hamlet of Timbervale is home to just under a hundred permanent residents who have made this settlement home.

Timbervale is olocated in the far northwest coner of Nentir Vale, with it having no main road in and out of the hamlet, only isolated trails and paths this small community has grown over the years into a very close knit community. The valley is surrounded by lush hills with forests of pine and aspen, which provide ample hunting and foraging opportunities for the locals.

The terrain is dotted with a few small farms and fields, where these residents grow a variety of crops, including wheat, corn, and vegetables. The Hamlet itself is a collection of cottages, houses, buildings and structures. They are constructed in tudor style using wood (some painted or coated with a simple wash made from brown, yellow, or white chalk mixed with water), brick and/or cobblestone.

These buildings feature mostly gable roofs, as do some of the surrounding properties include large farms and small gardens. There are many families with homes in the village that may offer nightly or weekly guests as well and the settlement also has a single Inn "the Inn of the Whistling Pig" that has rooms for guests to rent.

A few cobblestone roads and walkways lead to all the key establishments and a large stream runs through the Hamlet which is named "Redbrook Run", providing clean water for drinking and irrigation. The stream runs down from The Stonemarch, flowing through Timbervale and down into the Wintermist River that flows into Lake Wintermist.

Ruling over the settlement is lord Akron Stormblade. He created the local militia in the village to protect the lands. Lord Stormblade is very new to being protector of Timbervale having this much of a responsibility thrust upon him, but he has plenty of support and is managing better than expected. Akron is a respectful & polite man who loves his community deeply and he takes great pride in protecting his home and the good folk who live here.

The hamlet also has a local priest, Brother Temias who leads the druidic rituals on the "Hill of the Runes" and offers guidance to the villagers on matters of faith and morality. The priest is not a member of the militia but is an important figure in the village nonetheless. Overall the structure in Timbervale is hierarchical, with Sir Akron Stormblade at the top with brother Temias and groups of merchants and villagers supporting him.

The locals are very content with this arrangement, as it provides a stable and prosperous community in which they can live and work and for the most part, the community is very happy with Akron Stormblade ruling Timbervale and will be trying to keep him as lord of the hamlet "when the time comes of course". The villagers are a close-knit community, with a strong sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. They are hardworking and very self-sufficient. Despite their isolation, they are friendly but suspicious to outsiders because of the orc problems coming down from the Stonemarch through the Stonefang Pass.

Life here is simple and peaceful, and the villagers are content to live out their days in this peaceful and beautiful region.

The Market Square
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The majority of the Fallcrest folk live above the bluffs in Hightown and walk down to do business on the streets of Lowtown, which bustle with commerce. This wide square is an open area, full of shops and portable stalls where Fallcrest merchants and visiting traders do business during good weather. The children of the city gather here for games of tag or kick-stones.

Every other day or so, carts and wagons gather in the square and offer goods to the people of Fallcrest. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the city folk to shop and socialize in the market. Farmers sell produce, hunters hawk smoked meats, villagers sell crafts, and sometimes a trader from distant locations sells implements or costly goods.

"On any given day, there is a 50% chance that items from the adventuring gear list in the Player’s Handbook are available for sale here." Adventurers will almost never find armor, weapons, implements, or magic items in the market square.

Sandercot Provisioners

Inspired By Gary Gygax
The largest general store in Fallcrest, Sandercot’s deals in just about anything—food, clothing, stores, rope, tools, gear, leather goods, and more. Compared to the Halfmoon Trading House, Sandercot’s has slightly cheaper prices but goods of somewhat lower quality.

The owner is Nimena Sandercot, the widow of the late and unlamented Marken Sandercot. She has three young sons, all of whom are quickly learning the family business.

Barthen's Provisions
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The proprietor of this establishment is Elmar Barthen, a human man of fifty years of age. He has gray hair and mustache and carries himself very well. He employs a couple of young clerks (Ander and Thistle) who help load and unload wagons, and who wait on customers when Elmar isn't around.

Virtually all sorts of saleable goods are offered here. Rare and/or unusual items might be obtained at a price and in time (and will often be spurious or faulty). Magical items are NOT sold here ever! The store itself is medium sized at best. Barthen's Provisions is the only trading house in Phandalin and acts as the general store for the settlement.

1. Clothing and Packs: peasant equipment is about 90% of list price, rounded down; dungeoneering items are 100% rounded up.

2. Footwear, Gloves & Belts: Prices to adventurers is 125% of list, 80% to villagers.

3. Lighting Equipment: Tinderboxes, candles, oil, lamps, wicks, lanterns etc are 110% of list, rounded up.

4. Hand Tools: Hammers, adzes, planes, nails, saws etc. A file sells for 1sp and up. Saws cost cost about the same as a hand axe or hatchet.

5. Food & Herbs: Rations packed to go are 120% of list, and herbs are 150% of list.

6. Ropes, Chains & Dungeoneering Gear: (including writing materials and religious items) 110% of list.

7. Tack, Harness, Wheelbarrows & Dungeon Carts: All in stock will be at 75% of list.

The store is located on the northern side of Phandalin, and just south of his store lies Elmar's house. It is the first building that will be seen when entering Phandalin from the north side of the settlement.

The store is open from dawn until dusk. It sells low-cost trade wares, such as adventuring gear, as well as rations and other simple goods, and is perhaps the only place in the entire region that carries specialty skull-shaped butter. However, he does not sell weapons and armor or potions, but Elmar will helpfully direct interested buyers to places where they could find these. For larger orders, Elmar will supply a cart pulled by his ox Vincent to move the goods "for a price of course".

This store also serves as a trading hub. Clerks will unload and load carts of goods and resources that they come into, or were to go out of, Phandalin via wagon. Elmar also brokers deals for large sales of livestock and similar goods, bringing together local sellers from as far away as Fallcrest with buyers as far afield as Winterhaven.

Tika Tanner
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Tika Tanner, is a beautiful young female human and twin sister to Rosie. She has lived in Desul Torey all of her life while her sister was off adventuring, she stayed home with her loving aunt and took care of her until she passed away. She has an athletic build and flaming red hair, and she is dressed in a gray and white outfit and low boots. When her aunt passed away, she felt her sister was more prepared to run the inn with the passing of her aunt but she agreed to assist her as best she could.

Her and her sister are very close and have very similar personalities, her sister might be a little more outgoing than she is. Tika handles the bar at the Gray Hare Inn in Desul Torey together with her twin sister although she waits on tables as well to help her sister when business picks up.

Trait: It's always good to know when the time has come to cut someone off from the alcholic drinks at the inn.
Ideal: Posterity. I am a romantic at heart, and one day I want the fairy tale . . . a handsome man to sweep me off my feet and live happily ever after.
Bond: Desul Torey is my home, and always will be. I want to be near my family and friends.
Flaw: I can be stern at times, but it takes being stern when someone has had too much to drink. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say no.

Tika has lived in this region all of her life, and has not done much traveling unlike her twin sister. Her parents died when she was very young and she remembers little of them. She was raised by her aunt, in Desul Torey until she passed away two winters ago. Her aunt was the former owner of the Gray Hare and so upon her death her sister Rosie took over the Inn and Tika stepped up to help manage the inn.

Tika has never married, although she does have a vision, one day getting the fairy tale romance and settling down with a handsome young man. She is very friendly towards her customers but at times has to be a little strict with the drinks when people have had too much to drink, she knows most that visit the inn personally with them being locals of Desul Torey. Tika is very well liked and loved by all.

Tika does not know much about the region outside of Desul Torey, she leaves all that to her sister since Rosie is the former adventure and has traveled all over the region. Tika prefers running the bar herself "as much as she is able". During busier times she does help Rosie wait on tables.

Mort's Supplies
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
A sign depicting the grim reaper pushing a fruit cart hangs above the door of the only general store still open. A burly human named Mort runs it, and he is famed for his temper and fairness, but he doesn’t engage in petty arguing over prices. Those who try to bargain hear, “What does the tag say”? Those who persist are shown to the door. Mort has the adventuring gear described in the Player’s Handbook® and a 20% chance of having 1d4 Potions of Healing on hand.

Mort is a devout man who claims that his prayers have saved him from the doom hovering over the town. Mort and a few other townsfolk stalk the streets at night to destroy undead and cleanse the town. If befriended, Mort might point the way to the Temple of Three, claiming that “Only through faith will we find redemption”. He might also invite the heroes to join him on his nocturnal patrols.

River Amrun
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

River Amrun is a young half-elf commoner. He is slender and androgynous, with dark short hair that falls to one side. River often wears a farmer’s shirt, wide trousers, and practical boots.

Trait: I am often quiet, and I would never raise my voice or lose my temper.
Ideal: Gentleness. There is good in everyone, even if it can be hard to see.
Bond: I always take care of all types of animals. Regardless of how small or strange a creature might be, it has a place in this world.
Flaw: I know that the priest in Desul Torey worships an evil deity, I just know it . . . something about him that really bothers me.

He is in charge of taking care of the horses at the Gray Hare Inn in Desul Torey. All horses stabled here are groomed and well fed if they are housed here for longer periods.

River Amrun can often be found in the stables next to the inn, where he looks after the mounts of guests at The Gray Hare. River is quiet, hardworking, and loves all animals that don’t bite too hard (and even the ones that do).

Someone can buy travel rations, horse feed, and some other practical items from River. Each travel ration costs 5 sp and consists of smoked meat, goat cheese, a pack of oats, dried forest berries, and apples. Each ration is wrapped in waxed paper.

Rosie and Tika Tanner do what they can to take care of River Amrun since he is an orphan and does help with managing customers horses and such so they let him eat for free at the Gray Hare. River basically lives out of the stables, he has no actual home of his own.

River usually dresses in tans and greens. He is easy to talk with, although he does seem to be a bit shy at times and does not like to talk about other people.

Septarch’s Tower
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This massive structure is a tall, seven-sided spire of pale blue, green and grey stone that doesn’t match anything else in the town. It sits upon a high topped hill in Fallcrest to give it an air of importance as it overlooks the city. In the days before the Bloodspear War, this was the seat of Fallcrest’s mages’ guild—an order of a dozen or so wizards and arcane scholars.

Defensive enchantments prevented the orcs from sacking the tower, but the guild’s members died fighting for the city or fled to safer lands.

The tower is now the property of Nimozaran the Green, an elderly wizard who was once apprenticed to the last of the old guild mages. Nimozaran considers himself the “High Septarch of Fallcrest” and master of the guild, whose membership now includes only himself and a rather unpromising male halfling apprentice named Tobolar Quickfoot. Nimozaran expects any potential new guild members to pay a hefty initiation fee, and so far none of the few other arcanists living in or passing through Fallcrest have seen reason to join.

Before the fall of the guild, All arcane spellcasters in the city were entitled to join this organization, either as short-term guests or permanent, dues-paying members. The benefits of membership included access to hard-to-find spell components, the use of the guild’s research facilities, and the prospect of professional discourse with others of a similar mind. While there was collaboration with other wizards of the realm, the guild mostly looked after its own.

Nimozaran the Green is an elderly human wizard who was once apprenticed to the last of the old guild mages. Nimozaran hosted many powerful wizards in the Septarch's Tower prior to the Bloodspear War. Nimozaran is now one of the members of the newly formed White Council. While powerful, Nimozaran is by means the most powerful wizard in the vale but when asked he would not admit this fact.

Nimozaran has a hawk-like face, with a permanent frown that gives the appearance of alertness and almost anger, and a penetrating gaze. He keeps a long flowing beard and wears high collared robes. His voice is deep and melodic. When upset, his eyes crackles with eldritch power.

Years ago he spent a number of years in Barovia, trapped in the domain ruled by a powerful domain lord. It took him many years to find the way to escape. Even during his younger years his hair and beard were both long, black and peppered with grey streaks.

Over the many years his appearance has remain the same for the most part except for his aging, but he has lost none of his penetrating stare. Typically stubborn and one who does not suffer fools gladly, Nimozaran can be difficult even with his friends.

These days Nimozaran the Green is usually sealed within the tower studying his books and scrolls, rarely coming out to be among the city folk.

The Silver Unicorn
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Silver Unicorn is a small tavern just south west of the main gate of the city. Wisera Osterman, a young halfling runs the Silver Unicorn Inn. She is a matriarch figure and very protective of the adventuring crew who make the basement of her Inn their base of operations.

The Silver Unicorn is situated near the main gate of Fallcrest. Wisera shoce this location for the inn to be constructed thinking the closer to the main gate the better it would attract patrons. This Inn is a popular stopping point for the locals of Fallcrest and is usually rather busy. This medium sized Inn is very well maintained and is always clean. The Inn was built less than a year ago and still has a rather new feel to it.

The building has a second floor which contains ten guest rooms "sized for big folk as well as little folk" with a communal washroom at the end of the main hallway. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. Although the hall does not contain windows with curtains, each of the rooms has its own window.

The establishment is in every way a halfling built construction. Wisera tells her customers that when the Inn was built that she wanted it built in such a way as to bring just a little bit of her homeland to the commonfolk. The main floor in the inn consists mostly of an open area filled with small tables of different sizes with chairs and a small bar located along the wall just as you enter the establishment.

Four bar stools have been placed at the bar. The western end on the Inn is used as a small storage shelter that remains locked. This is where most of the wines and ales are stored . . . this chamber is more of an over stock room that casks are pulled from when inventory runs low in the Inn itself. The kitchen is a large area filled with cooks of several different races (with a menu such is the Silver Unicorn has, you need plenty of cooks).

Several tables have been set up outside the front of the inn for those wishing to have meals and enjoy the outdoors. Along the southern wall of the main floor dining area is a large hearth which is large enough to heat the entire main floor during the winter months. When sitting within the dining area one will see two, possibly three female "halfings" waiting tables in a joyful manner. Prices at the The Silver Unicorn are priced a "little" at normal price comparable to other inns across the vale. The meals that are prepared here are spoken well of across the vale. The ales are important from all across the region, many from Hammerfast and are always top quality ales and beers.

(All full meals are served with bread and honey, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, cabbage, carrots, or spinach along with whatever meat and drink the customer orders with it)

Halfmoon Trading House
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The Halfmoon family is a large, far-flung clan of halflings who keep small trading posts in several settlements throughout the Nentir Vale. This is the largest and most important of those establishments. It’s under the care of Selarund Halfmoon, a friendly halfling who dispenses a never-ending stream of advice to his customers.

Selarund Halfmoon, a friendly halfling dispenses a never-ending stream of advice to his customers, such as, “It never rains but as someone gets wet!” or “A nail ain’t afraid of a hammer with no handle!” No one knows what he’s talking about most of the time. He keeps a watchful eye on the comings and goings in Fallcrest. He runs the Halfmoon Trading House.
