Wrafton’s Inn
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This spacious inn and tavern serves as the public eating house for the region. Like alehouses everywhere, Wrafton’s Inn offers beer, wine, and, on occasion, spirits. Meals are served for those with the coin, and beds for travelers are available. A crowd of villagers gathers each night to drink, gossip, sing, and play games of chance.

In addition to village residents, any travelers passing through Winterhaven are found here. Wrafton’s owner and proprietor is a female human named Salvana Wrafton. She employs several waiters, waitresses, and cooks. Salvana is friendly and open, quick with a smile and a warm welcome.

Wrafton’s Inn is decorated with curios, salvage, and relics from across Nentir Vale from before the end of the war. An old statue from a beloved fountain stands in the corner, the planter boxes of a Winterhaven wineseller are mounted on the walls and filled with flowers, the privy door sports the doorknob and knocker from a noble's house, and unbroken panes of stained glass were hung from the ceiling and loaded with hundreds of candles for use as chandeliers. It all appears tasteful rather than tacky. The patrons of Wrafton’s Inn believe this is a proper way to honor the past days during the height of the Vale.

The walls are thick, the better for privacy. Overall, the Inn is clean and comfortable - having a rather worn look to it. The inside is bright and welcoming, with live music and lots of light. The décor includes elements modeled on flowers, seed pods, and leaves. The furniture was carved of wood.

Mounted on the wall just as people walk in is a job board that usually has several job requests for others to accept. The establishment is a nondescript everyday Inn one might find in any mid-sized town or village. The main floor in the inn consists mostly of open area filled with square tables with chairs and a medium sized bar located along the far side on the main floor as you enter the establishment. The meals served at the inn are well prepared and the rooms on the upper floor are clean and comfortable.

Meals are served on pottery or pewter or copper services according to the customers order. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages. The locally brewed ale and beer is supplemented by brews from other places, and wine, mead and brandy from all over the region make their way to the boards of the Nestled Nook Inn.

Temple of Three
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

A great temple stands apart from the other buildings just on the outskirts of the settlement. Its outer walls feature mosaics portraying wars and struggles, victories and blessings, but many are damaged or defiled by strange spiral signs. Attached to the temple is a modest cemetery. It is a veritable forest of gray headstones and angelic figures looming over their pedestals.

Most gods are honored here, but the Temple of Three, the village’s sole temple, holds three gods above the rest. Foremost is Melora, because she is patron to sailors, fisherfolk, and any who depend on the water’s bounty. Erathis is next, for she fosters community and keeps the wilderness at bay. Last is Pelor, the light in the darkness. Three magnificent statues depicting these deities stand in the stone and slate temple, and their alabaster forms are painted in gaudy colors. The other gods, deemed lesser figures, are featured in the grand mural on the temple’s ceiling.

An old graveyard stands next to the temple, bor- dered by a wrought iron fence. Gray headstones spotted with moss and lichen rise from the uneven soil, scattered around the mausoleums of Mistwatch’s more important citizens. A statue of the Raven Queen stands on a pedestal, her arms outstretched in wel- come to those who enter her domain.

Father Tomas runs the temple. He is terrified by the undead and believes the town is beyond hope. What Tomas doesn’t know is exactly how to save Mistwatch.

Watch House
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
Located in the city of Fallcrest sits a large building where the Captain of the Fallcrest militia coordinates his detachment of soldiers, and where miscreants serve their sentences. The Fallcrest Captain of the Guard is Elrik Vondergalt, a serious looking male human close to the age of 50, when on duty he is always dressed smartly in his guard uniform. Plate epaulets and higher quality arms and armor easily make him distinguishable from the common city militia. He commands a force of guards who keep Fallcrest relatively safe.

The Fallcrest Watch House stands at the intersection of Fallcrest Way and High Road. The watch house is a base for the Fallcrest Regulars and also serves as a barracks for some of the militia themselves. Also a part of the building "in the basement" is the Fallcrest jail. The watch house also has a rather large armory "which is located in the back of the main floor and very well secured". Usually, four, sometimes six Fallcrest militia are present in the watch house at any given time, either hearing public complaints, guarding the jail, or sleeping.

The barracks is located on the second floor containing multiple bunks for sleeping. The jail which is located in the basement has a dozen cells. Each cell is approximately 20 square feet in size.

Winterhaven Tenements
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
This large tenement structure features apartments for the village residents who do not own farms or who work in the businesses within the walls who do not have a permanent residence. Several families also live in the homes on the west side of the village. Most of the villagers who live outside the walls are farmers and crafters who bring their wares to the Market Square to sell or trade.

The tenements belong to the Winterhaven government, they are not independently owned and operated by any individual. The weekly rent starting at 10sp/week is sent to the office of Lord Mayor Ernest Padraig and is then used to maintain structures within Winterhaven, pay the militia and other things that keep this settlement flourishing. Rent is mostly dependent on what profession the person(s) is/are. People that have higher incomes will be rented to for an elevated rent fee (in other words, adventurers will be able to pay a lot more since they are usually "well off"). It does however have an individual that administers the weekly funds, a kindly woman by the name of Marita Olven. She runs a nearby office during the day that handles all business for the tenements.

Winterhaven citizens can join the Warrior Guild and train, once per week, in basic sword and shield skills. The guild trains in Market Square on days when the market is not open. Some citizens earn militia pay (a few silver pieces per year) by training at least once per month and being on call for emergencies. Rond Kelfem, captain of the Winterhaven Regulars, also oversees the Warrior Guild. He can be found here, in the barracks, or on guard duty, depending on the time of day.

Fallcrest Harbor
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The harbor of Fallcrest is the largest and busiest port in Nentir Vale. It is able to occommodate even the largest of ships.

Along the city, its harbor was inset within a natural bay that formed off of the Nentir River as well as the Winter River making the city of Fallcrest the focal point for most of the trade within the vale. Massive in size and scope . . . rivaling even some of the larger cities of old throughout Nerath, the harbor features multiple large mechanical cranes that are used to load and unload cargoes onto and from ships.

Due to the city's receptive nature and business-first mentality, a variety of cargo passes through the docks of the city from throughout Nentir Vale.

Queen Stravalla's Tower
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
Just south of Mount Starris, a valley cuts a scar-like line through the Dawnforge Mountains. Despite the summer heat or the bitter winter cold, a forest forever thick and lush fills this valley. Travelers smell Summerdown Valley long before they see it, as the blooming flowers cast a perfume on the wind. Despite its appearance, the valley is a place of grave danger.

A powerful hag, Queen Stravalla of Winter’s Mourning, dwells within this place. In her tower, she surveys the verdant garden that is her realm. Trolls, werewolves, and murderous fey heed her beck and call, and within the ever-verdant forest shamble the animated corpses of those who dared enter her realm. Clad in rusted armor and covered with sickly sweet orchids that grow from their decaying flesh, these sentinels make quick work of those who blunder into Summerdown Valley.

Minions of Queen Stravalla, trolls, werewolves and other fell creatures of Summerdown Valley venture far and wide in search of fresh victims and treasure for their queen. In addition to the groups just mentioned, other monsters common to the region include ankhegs, blood hawks, dire boars, cave bears, hippogriffs, harpies, manticores, owlbears, gray wolves, and wyverns. The valley and surrounding area are infested with trolls, hill giants, ogres, gnolls, goblins, and orcs, making trveling in the region very dangerous. In the aftermath of the Bloodspear War, these monsters have grown bolder and more aggressive. A number of marauding gangs of humans, dwarves, halflings, and gnomes, scour the peaks as well, in search of folk to rob and terrorize.

Several bands of goliaths range throughout the mountains as well. Most of the time these goliaths wander above the tree line to keep clear of monsters and travelers. Once a year, though, they engage in a great race across the mountains. A non-goliath that completes the race becomes an honorary member of one of the clans.

These mountains also hide dragons—foremost among them the three-headed monstrosity that calls herself Calastryx. The dragon is slumbering, still affected by a curse placed on her centuries ago, but fears are growing stronger that her reemergence is near. Like Vestapalk far to the west, she too has a tribe of kobolds that are fanatically subservient to her. The Emberdark kobolds can hardly wait till Calastryx wakes up, and they actively work to make that happen.

Apart from the dangers of bandits and monsters, the rough terrain, perilous slopes, and bitter cold of the mountains present equally deadly threats.

Mayor's Office
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This small building is the Mayor's office in Desul Torey, the center of government in Desul Torey which is where one might find Mayor Halan during the day time hours when he is not out and about the settlement. This location is also the public meeting place for any important meeting that requires the mayor's attention. The mayor's office is located in the center of Desul Torey.

The structure is a small single story building made of good quality stone and wood. The roof is made of wood with a bell tower rising from the back of the building. A noticeboard near the front door displays bulletins and information for residents and newcomers to Desul Torey, some are even jobs offering rewards for certain tasks.

The office is used for multiple purposes but is mainly used for meetings and such with a sturdy oak table with chairs seated around it. A large hearth warms the entire office during the colder months of the year. The mayor will meet here monthly with most of the prominent business owners in Ravenvale to discuss matters of importance. A large designer rug lay across most of the center of the room with well-made furniture and such spread across the room.

All rewards for completed jobs are paid out of the mayor's office by the mayor himself. Outsiders will never gain access to the office without first getting permission. The second floor is mainly used as the lord mayor's home. A small hearth is in the back of the room which is independent from the one downstairs. The upstairs room is a simple room, with only the basic necessities. Mayor Halan spends very little time here except for getting needed sleep.

Blue Moon Alehouse
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Blue Moon Alehouse, a rather large tavern that is rumored to be one of the oldest taverns in Fallcrest. This brewhouse, on the banks of the Moonwash Stream is the best tavern in town, popular among halfling traders. The Alehouse has an aged look and feel to it but seems well put together and well maintained. Most of the clientele have plenty of coin to spend.

Kemara Brownbottle, Brewmaster of the Blue Moon Alehouse. The true (and recognized) genius behind the success of the Blue Moon Alehouse. This two story stone built establishment is a tavern in the city of Fallcrest. The building has a very warm and comfortable feel to it. Walking into the tavern, customers immediately notice the fine construction of the building. It is obvious the management has invested a lot of money into this tavern.

The Blue Moon Alehouse is a very nice drinking establishment located in the northernmost section of the city. It's proprietor is a elderly Halfling named Kemara Brownbottle who can often be found welcoming customers at the door. Many merchants and travelers can also be found here recruiting for various adventures. It is very popular among the short folk. It features a young female half-elven Barmaid named Trista, a consumables merchant, and three hearths to warm your spirits. The tavern has a warm, comfortable feel to it, the hearths are always roaring during the winter months and the taverns ale casks are always full! The establishment also has a "job board" where the governing body of Fallcrest posts various jobs that they are looking for assistance with.

Respectable customers are always welcome as long as they have the money for their drinks and meals. Meals are priced slightly higher than the norm, but the food and drink are well worth the price increase and with the tavern being located in the busier section of Fallcrest, the prices are easily a fair price for the customers that frequent this alehouse while remaining in range of travelers and merchants. The guest rooms are rather pricey but again, they are well worth the price.

The main floor of the tavern is mostly an of open area, with dividers separating each section and filled with tables and chairs and a well stocked bar located on the side of the room as you enter the tavern. Bar stools have been placed around the bar itself. The inn is clean and very well maintained, you can tell the owners take great pride in this establishment.

Meals are served on pottery, pewter or copper services according to the customers order. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages.

The locally brewed dwarven ale and beer is supplemented by brews from other places, and wine, mead and brandy from all over the region.

Valthrun's Tower
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This five-story structure is the highest building in Winterhaven. The tower is rumored to be over 300 years old, and Valthrun the Prescient is its most recent resident. Valthrun doesn’t use much of the tower; he inhabits the top two levels. The bottom three levels are locked "used for storage" . . . except for the stairway connecting them to Valthrun’s quarters. The sage and scholar has a small selection of 1st and 2nd level spells that he is willing to sell once he determines the worth and merit of an adventurer. "DM's descretion within the Player’s Handbook for availablility of spells".

Valthrun the Prescient: Valthrun is a sage and scholar who lives in this tower which is located within Winterhaven’s walls. Valthrun first met the original members of the Godsworn when they came to Winterhaven to dispose of increased bandit activity in the area. This led the company of heroes to foil the plot of the Orcus death cultist "Kalarel", who was attempting to re-open a rift to the Shadowfell beneath the ruins of an old keep. Valthrun has been a source of information and wisdom to the Godsworn, and is one of the founding members of the newly reformed White Council of Wizards.

Viserys was originally Valthrun's apprentice, though he was studying under Nimozaran the Green in Fallcrest when the events at the Shadowfell Keep transpired. Valthrun is a historian and theologian, who resides in a tower in Winterhaven. His tower is a 300-yr old intact structure that predates Winterhaven. It serves as the perfect home for Valthrun, who spends most of his time reading about days of yore in the tower’s various libraries. The libraries include an extensive collection of books on the Shadowfell as well. Thinking it to be the source of Winterhaven’s protection from the elements, Lord Padraig used to maintain a guard for the old tower but happily lets Valthrun maintain residence, knowing the wizard has rigged a host of magical wards to protect its valuable contents. Only Dennanmar has managed a peek at this collection, learning about creatures from the Shadowfell.

Valthrun’s second home is The Coach and Pony in Hammerfast. Though the inn is run by Varda Goldspinner – rooms (and passage around town on Kavik’s coach) are frequently given as favors or rewards by her sister, Marsinda, the High Mistress of Hammerfast. Having helped a ghostly paladin recover loot stolen from his tomb, Valthrun was offered accommodations as a reward. Each time he returns to Hammerfast, he offers something new. On his latest trip, Valthrun used his recently acquired ability to Speak with Dead to smooth over relations among Hammerfast’s many dead occupants. Valthrun is a member of the Lore Guild and visits the Lore Spire daily when he is in Hammerfast, followed by tea at The Black Cat.

His third “home” must be Wrafton’s Inn (in Winterhaven), where he can be found sharing breakfast with Lord Padraig or looking for adventurers to help him explore various ruins: Keegan’s Keep, Tomb of Empress Agera, Gardmore Abbey. Although he pays handsomely for adventurers to map such ruins, he does not shy away from adventure when it feeds his love for history.

Despite his capability in combat, Valthrun is a bit squeamish when it comes to blood, especially his own. He wears a never-empty pouch of bandages, doling them out to anyone wounded. Valthrun, himself, starts each day clean and intends to stay that way. When wounded, he teleports away to clean himself up. When desperate, he calls upon the services of his Tome Caddy, Malic, who draws forth the Tome of the Replenishing Flame, casting Fireshield or Wall of Fire with regenerating flames.

Valthrun has been training as a Spellgarde Wizard, allowing him bonuses to armor class and boosts to Blast spells which both help considerably in combat. Not only can he increase the range of his fireballs, but he can convert blast spells into burst spells. Tainted perhaps by his many nights of Shadowfell reading, Valthrun tends to incorporate shadowy psychic attacks as well. Valthrun also has Melee Training and loves to whack people with his magic staff, sometimes knocking them flat. Needless to say, Valthrun is a powerful wizard and is respected throughout the region and even beyond.

Valthrun has a unique capability for foreknowledge. Often, he sees events just prior to them actually happening. This can give him an advantage in combat (or take away an opponent’s advantage). This foreknowledge offers some protection to others as well. Conversations with Valthrun can be confusing as he has a better grasp of the past than the present, which gets muddled at times by the future.

The Market Square

The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The majority of Fallcrest’s folk live above the bluffs in Hightown and walk down to do business on the streets of Lowtown, which bustle with commerce. This wide square is an open area, full of shops and portable stalls where Fallcrest’s merchants and visiting traders do business during good weather. The town’s children gather here for games of tag or kick-stones.

Every other day or so, carts and wagons gather in the square and offer goods to the people of Fallcrest. Once each week, the official Market Day acts as a siren’s song, calling most of the city folk to shop and socialize in the square. Farmers sell produce, hunters hawk smoked meats, villagers sell crafts, and sometimes a trader from distant locations sells implements or costly goods.

"On any given day, there is a 50% chance that items from the adventuring gear list in the Player’s Handbook are available for sale here." Adventurers will almost never find armor, weapons, implements, or magic items in the market square, however.

The young lady is an excellent source of rumors, since she sees the travelers coming or going by the roads. She is a friendly fellow of about forty, with a large brood of children at his home out in the countryside.

Winterhaven Temple
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

This large stone structure is the Winterhaven temple. Of the several deities worshiped by locals, Avandra, goddess of luck and change, is the most prominent. The temple priest, Sister Linora, runs services in the temple three times per week, but otherwise she is not often present.

She prefers to travel among the homes outside the walls, dispensing care to villagers and animals and helping with various farm projects. Winterhaven has a graveyard for which Sister Linora serves as caretaker. The graveyard is located a short distance south of the walled town.

The temple itself is a rather large structure. The Winterhaven Temple stands in the far side of the settlement and faces the south side of Diamond Street between Granite Street and the Street of Knowledge. Running around the temple on the east, west, and south sides is a passage known as Moon Alley. It stands five blocks east of the main gate. It is one of the most significant structures in Winterhaven.

The temple iss an imposing edifice with a beautiful entrance that dominates the block and is more grandiose than most of the neighboring noble villas. The two-story temple complex has interior & exterior walls built mostly of dark granite brick, over which is a façade of dark marble tiles, almost 4 feet (1.2 meters) on each side. These are painted with overlapping moonglow spells in the form of runes to display the faith's teachings to the outside world. It has a central hall ringed by lesser domes and tall slender towers of circular or hexagonal plan.

Every dome and tower-top was gilt with gold such that the whole temple could sometimes appear entirely golden even with the dark granite walls. Each dome and corner was topped by a spire bearing a crescent moon. A wide stairway leads up to the huge double doors under an arch adorned with more symbols of the Avandra, and flanked by smaller arches. Many balconies and large windows looked out over the streets.

Nentir Inn
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Nentir Inn, a rather cozy Inn that is said to be one of the oldest structures in this city. The Inn has an aged look and feel to it but seems well put together and very well maintained. Most of the clientele have plenty of coin to spend ... "mostly being travelers and adventurers passing through". The Nentir Inn is nestled in the middle of Fallcrest and sees plenty of paying customers.

It features a Well-Informed Barmaid, a consumables merchant, and a hearth to warm your spirits. Fallcrest might not be the largest city in Nerath, and larger cities might have more fancy establishments, but the Nentir Inn ale casks are always flowing and the city takes great pride in the inn! The owner of the inn is a half elf named Erandil Zemoar, a charming half elf in his mid thirties, Erandil showed up in Fallcrest one day about two years ago, bought land and built the Nentir Inn. Erandil's inn serves as the primary competition for Wisara Osterman's Unicorn Inn. The half-elf's primary clientelle are merchants from Winterhaven, Hammerfast and Moonstair, as well as travelers who happen to be passing through.

No customer is turned away as long as they have the money for their drinks and meals. Meals are mostly of standard prices, and the food and drink are well worth the prices. The guest rooms are rather pricey but, they are well worth the price. This establishment, has 11 rooms for rent upstairs and the overall structure is very well maintain and is a welcome sight to those coming in off the long roads. The main floor in the inn consists mostly an open area filled with tables and chairs and a well stocked bar located on the side of the room as you enter the tavern. Bar stools have been placed around the bar itself. The inn is clean and very well maintained, you can tell the owners take great pride in this establishment. General gossip is common within these walls "with the many travelers visiting this location all having tales to share".

Prices at the Nentir Inn are a little higher than usual but the meals that are prepared here make up for the increased prices. Choice venison, mutton, poached salmon, trout stuffed with specially prepared mixtures, goose roasted to a golden brown, pork, steaming sausages, steak and kidney pie with mushrooms or truffles, squab stuffed pheasant and boiled crayfish in drawn butter are just a few of the delights which are served here. Most Patrons include wealthy traveling merchants, traveling nobles, and citizens of Fallcrest.

Meals are served on pottery or pewter or copper services according to the customers order. Various leather jacks, pottery mugs, wooden tankards, pewter steins, glass flagons, crystal goblets, or silver chalices are used for the beverages. The locally brewed ale and beer is supplemented by brews from other places, and wine, mead and brandy from all over the region make their way to the boards of the Nentir Inn.

(All full meals served with bread and honey, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, potatoes, and string beans, yams, rum-boiled artichokes, cabbage, carrots, or spinach)

Visitors will notice standing behind the bar (during most business hours) - the barkeep, known commonly as Elrick Krenshaw, a middle-aged man, wearing a brown apron over a tan long sleeved shirt and tan pants.

Desul Torey
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

Desul Torey is a small, independent settlement located in the eastern region of Nentir Vale. Desul Torey has many hunters that hunt in the surrounding region. Remnants of the long-vanished Dwarven presence can still be seen in Desul Torey with many structures having a hint of dwarven architecture.

The surrounding region is mostly light woodlands and a modest amount of farmland. The White River flows through this settlement, the waters are deep. Farming and trade shipping both important sources of income for the settlement.

Many local businesses have closed down within the settlement, not because Desul Torey is in any kind of trouble but mostly because with the increase in bandits in the area have cause many to leave for safer regions, most farms have closed and other small businesses have closed simply due to lack of business. Mayor Halan wants to see these businesses reopened sometime in the near future, he has also been encouraging the farming community to restart, he feels if the buinesses that were lost were to restart, the settlement would thrive as it once did.

Desul Torey holds frequent festivals such as the Midwinter Solstice Festival, feasts, and fairs throughout the year, and also the midsummer Peachiest Pie bake-off is held during this celebration. The festivals will also have other random events and contests that change from year to year depending on popularity.

The mayor of Desul Torey "Grendel Halan" is a friendly, elderly man with graying hair and is clean shaved. He has been trying to find ways to bring back the lost businesses but with the recently banidtry going on and some recently recent disappearances of residents in the settlement, people have begun to worry once again. Desul Torey is a small settlement on the rise with a population of around 360 people. The settlements population is mostly human.

Things have not been all bad though, of course, things have never been all that good either, but the mayor has high hopes for this settlement to rebound soon. With how Desul Torey being in such an isolated area of the vale, problems will always arise . . . Nentir Vale is not a safe place, things are as they are and until the vale is explored once again and the evil has been rooted out, problems will always be on hand.

For the most part, the community remains a peaceful settlement and seems to be growing despite the recent troubles in the region. Desul Torey does have a small force of militia, approx. ten town guards with usually only having five on duty at a time, with one of the five manning the guardhouse. The handful of militia of the settlement is made up of members of the town itself which makes their jobs all the more important since these people are literally protecting their own homes and families.

This settlement lies outside of the Barony of Harkenwold but it has good relations with the small barony. Trade between Desul Torey and the settlements of Harkenwold is steady. Several years past, Baron Stockmer, the lord of Harkenwold met with Mayor Halan to discuss the settlement of Desul Torey joining the Barony, but discussions fell through and the offer was turned down.

A few buildings, including The Gray Hare, are built upon foundations of long-gone dwarven constructions. An old clapper bridge provides crossing of the White River just south of the settlement, which also runs through Desul Torey. Trade is done primarily with the dwarven fortress of Hammerfast to the north-east, travelling merchants, and a few settlements within the Barony of Harkenwold.

Relations between Desul Torey and the Barony of Harkenwold have remained on good terms since the failed meeting. A time may come when Desul Torey accepts membership into the barony, but at this moment in time, Grendel Halan feels it would be best for this settlement to maintain its independence.

A few cobblestone roads and walkways lead to all of the key establishments and a small stream that branches off of the White River, runs through the settlement which is named "Whitebrook Run", providing fresh, clean water for drinking and irrigation. The stream runs off of the White River which flows through Desul Torey and down into the Harken Forest that lies south of the settlement.

The settlements community is made up of friendly folk but they always seem to have their guard up during these troubling times. These people understand that the sporadic raids by orcs and goblins that have been happening recently might cause them to be forced to defend themselves or others whom they are allied with but regardless, life goes on and even though they stand ready to fight, these people still live a normal life.

The climate tends to be cool during the summer, not overly humid but winters are usually very cold with much snowfall in this region . . . "typical woodsman weather", just how they like it. Farming and hunting are the common trades of the region, along with the small amount of trade that comes into Desul Torey from time to time. Exports mostly consist of furs and pelts along with meat from hunting within the surrounding area.

Most residents of Desul Torey have never traveled beyond the immediate region. The majority of villagers are farmers, though the settlement of Desul Torey employs various craftspeople as well. Wagons occasionally head out of Desul Torey to find trade with the next village, town or settlement, which lies several days away.

Government
The mayor of Desul Torey, Grendel Halan, is descended from the noble family that ruled the area under edict of the old empire. Folks around Desul Torey are happy with Mayor Grendel Halan’s authority, and they have found answering to the rules of the current mayor fair and just. Grendel Halan knows he has been entrusted to protect this settlement and means to do just that.

Halan approved the local militia to be formed "which is overseen by the Captain of the Watch, Felos Half Elven", a group of six soldiers who perform guard and police functions in and around the settlement. The guards patrol in pairs. To augment this force, Halan can muster a group of about 20 civilians, given a day’s notice.

However, he can only do this if the settlement itself is threatened—the villagers have no desire to patrol the road beyond the farms. Mayor Halan is a member of the "Small Council" which is a small group of noted indivuals of Desul Torey who watch over the community.

The Old Barrow
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

The Old Barrow or as most know it as the "Barrowmaze" dominates the hightopped hills south of the settlement of Nenlast. The region is a vast fetid bog south of Lake Nen from which it feeds off of. Within these marshy hills, an obscuring fog hangs heavily on the landscape and easily disorients travelers.

At dusk the fog is nearly impenetrable and the moon casts an eerie glow across the soggy hills. The air feels thick and hard to breath. The marsh smells of rot and decay. The ground of the Barrowmoor is soft and footprints quickly fill with dark peat-coloured water.

The hills are difficult to navigate due to the tangled and near impenetrable mass of decaying trees, weeds that stand seven feet high, knotted vines, and deep pools of black swamp water.

The hills are an unnervingly silent place. Occasionally the deep croak of a bullfrog can be heard before it plops into the water, or perhaps the distant caw of a raven, but otherwise the hills is strangely quiet.

Stories abound about the monsters and inhabitants of the Barrowmoor. A tribe of froglings is known to exist somewhere in the central eastern portion of the marsh. These small, frog-like humanoids often emerge from the moor to attack caravans travelling back and forth along the trade routes to from Nenlast to Hammerfast and and even as far as Fallcrest.

Locals also tell stories of creatures flying above the fog covered hills and dark fell creatures lurking throughout the region around the Barrows. Adventuerers brave enough to journey across the dark shrouded region also tell tales of lizardmen conducting strange rituals around ancient standing stones in the southern portion of the hills.

For much of the year the Barrowmoor is near impenetrable. During the fall, winter, and early spring the region is simply too soggy and water-covered to traverse. The hills lie in a lowland region which takes on a lot of water from Lake Nen.

Over the last two seasons, the populations of Nenlast have grown with adventurers in the summer months and adventuers have also set out from Fiveleague House in search of ancient treasures and magic.

Most of the heroes who went into this region have not been heard from again. The few who do return are changed and speak of dark evils lurking in the foggy region. Most of these adventuers that do return warn others that this region is best left alone.

Considered the finest of Fallcrest’s retail establishments, Naerumar’s Imports deals in gemstones, jewelry, art, and magic trinkets. The owner is Orest Naerumar, a human in his late 50's who displays impeccable manners and discretion. Orest corresponds with relatives and colleagues in several towns and cities outside the Nentir Vale; given a few weeks, he can order in items of unusual value. Similarly, Orest purchases interesting items such as these, since other dealers in distant towns or cities might be looking for them.

Virtually every sort of saleable goods are sold here. Rare and/or unusual items might be obtained at a price and in time (and will often be spurious or faulty). Magical items are NOT sold here ever! The establishment seems to always be well stocked. The store itself is medium sized to large with a single floor but it does have many alchoves along the upper walls that are accessed with ladders. Watch House
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax

In the center of Desul Torey sits a stout building where the Master of Arms coordinates her watch and miscreants serve their sentences. The Master of Arms is Felos, " her last name is unknown to the public - she simply goes by the name Felos Half Elven", a female half-elf veteran "former adventurer" retired in the town. She commands a small force of guards who keep the town safe.

The Desul Torey watch house stands at the intersection of Brandywine Road and Garnet Way. The watch house is a base for the Desul Torey militia and also serves as a barracks for the local militia. Also a part of the building "in the basement" is the jail and armory "which is located in the back of the main floor and well secured", this jail hardly gets used other than on occasion when someone has a little too much to drink. Usually, one, sometimes two militia are present in the watch house at any given time, either hearing public complaints, guarding the jail, or sleeping.

The barracks is located on the second floor containing multiple bunks for sleeping. The jail which is located in the basement has nine cells. Each cell is approximately 15 square feet in size.

A lighthouse and its attached house stand on a rocky hill in the bay. The keeper, Philip, a, kind, elderly man survives on rain- water and the fish he catches from the sea. He’s too terrified to go ashore or light the tower’s main light for fear of attracting the horrors that come out at night.

Anyone who reaches the lighthouse may find a temporary haven on the island, though it won’t last forever, Philip is in no condition to protect anyone from the outside horrors.

Stables
The Valelands & The Nerath Timeline
The current year for our Valelands campaign is set during the year 103AE.
Inspired By Gary Gygax
The stables are ran by Kristof Amrun, a young half elven boy who handles the stables day to day operations. Mounts and such stabled here are well taken care of and groomed on a regular bases. Kristof does not have set rates for stabling mounts, Kristof usually works off of tips since he finds he earns a better living doing business this way.

These stables are located just outside of the Green Dragon Inn so Kristof gets a decent amount of business from outsiders who come to Portown and stop by the inn for meals and rooms.
